That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime | Formal Recommendation for the Anime (beware, spoilers on second page.)

Rimuru Tempest, the main character.

The series went in a direction I did not expect and the pacing felt alright. I was surprised when Rimuru did a predatory action on a certain character. I was fully expecting him to go down the love route as that was clearly indicated to him and that is what I saw in a few animes. I was expecting him to convince her that it is ‘worth it to keep living’ and all that annoying stuff. Thankfully that does not happen. Ok, I warned you before about spoilers, this person’s name was uhh… Conquer of the Flames. Anyway, I think this person has a younger self? Like from the past? Chole in particular. When Chole prayed for a higher spirit, the spirit looked like Shizue but older… And that one demon person, who the narrator said got named Diablo, said something about her mask being something of time, which is why he ceased attacking her. So, Rimuru’s love destiny may still be with Shizue in a strange convoluted way.

I still cannot get over how Rimuru just ate Shizue. I cannot get over how she just let it happen and how Rimuru did not object to this. Why did she turn into a grandma after Rimuru touched her hand? I don’t know, I don’t know. What I do know is, I want Rimuru to fully establish his plan for world peace and have all self-aware creatures to live together in harmony. At first I was worried that the Demon King/(God?) might be an annoying issue to deal with, but seeing how Rimuru has not killed a single person in the series… well, I mean he did eat a few people but not killed in the bad way I should say, and based on uhh… Pink Haired Demon Lord and a few scenes at the Demon Castle I think it is safe to say that the Demon people are actually very bored. Some probably live up to their title of Demon but some are just very bored people and thus good people when Rimuru meets them. Pink Haired Demon Lord suggested that Rimuru should become a Demon Lord himself… He is against this idea but I think he will take it up eventually… since I am pretty sure being a Demon Lord is not really ‘evil’, like with the fairy demon lord who fell from grace (but does not seem like an evil being…) and I guess Leon, who was a hero then ‘fell’ from grace? We’ll see with him if there even is a second season, which I hope there is.

There are a lot of characters that I thought would be annoying like the Dwarven King… He was not annoying; but, god-damn he sure had huge a potential to be annoying. There are no characters that I can say that I dislike who were meant to be liked (e.g. I disliked Vesta because he is meant to be disliked, which is fine…) Speaking of Vesta, I like his character progression. He is a typical spineless lord bad guy with political power but… to my surprise he regrets what he does. This is not something I see often in anime. This series does a lot of things like this and makes me happy.

In TenSura, when a monster gets a noun attached to them they evolve… or at least get much stronger. Like the Demon Lord, Orc Disaster Gelo? I predict that Rimuru Tempest will get a title attached to him like this, and he will become something even greater. Demon Lord Rimuru Tempest has the potential of being very cool. Knowing how this series does things unexpectedly, I don’t know if that will come to pass but I am certain that Rimuru will get a title in someway. He even got a title of chancellor… this did not seem to make him a better slime in anyway. Hmm… I assumed the Dwarven King got strong because he became the King but he was previously a hero. So the ‘evolving’ thing definitely happens with names given by a superior being. I am not sure about titles… maybe honorary titles like ‘king’ and ‘chancellor’ has no effect but titles that invoke a certain frequency of the magic particles (like demon lord) has an effect.

Speaking of the Dwarven King and the Tempest clan… Velduro?, the dragon and the king may have some ‘talking’ to do after Rimuru sets the dragon free. When Velduro’s face appeared randomly during scenes I thought Rimuru was going to have issues with an angry Velduro but judging from episode 25 this does not seem to be the case. I do wonder what Rimuru’s plans are to set him free. The world may have an different opinion of Rimuru when they learn that the dragon named him and that they are of the same clan.

I quite like this anime and I will watch it again one day. Maybe not all at once though lol.
